Living or caring for someone with dementia?

The Dementia Support Service can help you live well with dementia, with person-centred support and information.

Our team are here to support you and your needs, or those of your family, friends, and carers.

Our Services

Getting the information and advice you need is often the first step in navigating a dementia diagnosis, but it doesn’t stop there.

We can help you find out what benefits you are entitled to, along with services you can access. We can also help with legal and financial issues such as power of attorney and how to manage your affairs, or somebody else’s if you are their carer.

Alongside this we can offer specialist advice and support with tricky issues such as debt and energy guidance and can work with you if you find yourself in a situation where you have to appeal benefits decisions.

To find out more, please contact Citizens Advice Swansea Neath Port Talbot by visiting their contact page.

Living with dementia can mean that sometimes you need a little extra help around the home or support to do the things you enjoy. Our free Help at Home service can take a weight off your shoulders, whether that’s to tackle practical chores around the home or helping you do activities you enjoy.

Our friendly, trained staff are fully DBS checked and will provide the support that’s important to you.

We can help with:

  1. Doing activities you enjoy, whether that’s cooking, scrapbooking or jumping on your games console
  2. Help with chores around the house like ironing, cleaning, changing beds and doing the laundry
  3. Admin tasks like sorting the mail, organising a room or sorting through old boxes
  4. A little company whether with a cup of tea, watching a film or generally having a chat

If you need a hand with something not on the list, give a call and we’d be happy to help.

A diagnosis of dementia often creates more questions than answers.

If you are caring for someone with dementia then Live and Learn – Dementia can offer you accessible sessions on all aspects of understanding dementia, how to plan for the future,  wellbeing activities and more. You can meet other dementia carers and have the support of others at a time when you need it most.

Looking after someone with dementia can mean you have little time for yourself. Our At Home Respite Service can help you take a break safe in the knowledge that your loved one is being supported by a fully trained, DBS checked support worker.

We can also help you tackle chores in the house, giving you a break from housework to focus on yourself, or have quality time with your loved one.

Respite benefits both the person with dementia, and their carer, as it can improve the carer’s physical and mental wellbeing, whilst being beneficial for your relationship, and allowing the person with dementia to spend time with somebody different.

We can help with:

  1. Sitting with your loved one with dementia, so you can do your own thing for a few hours
  2. A little company if you want a chat, to do an activity, or have someone there to help you do your chores like cooking or cleaning
  3. Laundry & ironing- including soiled items
  4. Admin tasks, such as sorting mail
  5. Organising or sorting the home
